Cold, squatters, space heaters contribute to spate of 29 fires in 45 days in Saginaw

SAGINAW, MI — Cold weather, squatters, cooking accidents and space heaters are believed to be contributing causes for the majority of the fires in Saginaw so far this season. The city of Saginaw has had 29 fires in the 45 days, which averages out to about two fires every three days, or a little over four per week, according to information from the Saginaw Fire Department.

2 escape fire on Bates near Van Buren in Saginaw

SAGINAW, MI — At 8:22 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, Saginaw firefighters were dispatched to 408 S. Bates near Van Buren on the city’s West Side for a report of a structure fire. Vacant home destroyed by 'suspicious' blaze on Saginaw's East Side to be demolished

SAGINAW, MI — Saginaw firefighters fought a blaze on Sunday, Sept. 22, on the city's East Side that destroyed a vacant home on South 12th Street. Acting Chief Christopher Van Loo said firefighters were called to the home at 139 S. 12th at about 8 p.m. The vacant home was a total loss, Van Loo said, and will be demolished.

Ralph Martin officially promoted to Saginaw Fire Marshal position

    SAGINAW, MI — Ralph Martin, who has worked as the acting Fire Marshal since September 2012, has been promoted to serve in the position in an official capacity, the Saginaw Fire Department reports. Martin was established as the top candidate through a competitive testing process, according to a news release from the city of Saginaw.

15 Saginaw firefighter jobs preserved after $2.3 million federal grant award

Who we are
Welcome to the Saginaw Firefighters Local 102 Web Site. We are located in Saginaw, Michigan, approximately 90 miles north of Detroit. We are Michigan's First International Association of Fire Fighters affiliate. We are also a member of the Michigan Professional Firefighters Union and the Michigan AFL-CIO.

We currently have 50 uniformed members, ranging from Firefighters, Fire Engineers, Lieutenants, Captains, Training/Safety Officer, Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Marshal and Battalion Chiefs, all dedicated to the goal of ensuring we have fair wages, decent hours and safe working conditions. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Our union strives to be a part of our community by participating in and donating to local, state and national events such as the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon, Arson Watch, the Annual Memorial Day Parade, the Cinco De Mayo Parade, the East Side Soup Kitchen, the H.O.S.T. program (a mentoring program), visiting schools and many other civic and charitable events.

Saginaw has a population of 56,263 (2007) residents. Land area is 17.6 square miles. The Saginaw Fire Department operates 4 fire stations: Central Fire Station (Station One) with one Engine and One Ladder Truck; Fordney Park Fire Station (Station Twowith One Ladder Truck; Hess Street Fire Station (Station Three) with One Engine and State Street Fire Station (Station Four) with One Engine.
